Where do I begin?
Our journey started in October 2016, during my senior year of college. I picked Rylee up around Halloween, and his very first costume was a Cavaliers jersey.
I used to take him on walks down Court Street, and halfway through he would simply sit down, refusing to go any farther. I would end up carrying him the rest of the way home.
Not long after bringing him home, I realized balancing my senior year and a new puppy was harder than I expected. That’s when he truly became part of the Fonte family. My parents helped raise him in those early years, and he formed an especially special bond with my mom.
When Lou & I started dating in 2018, one of our first dates included Lou bringing a treat for Rylee along with flowers. Before long, Rylee became part of our little family. He was there through our engagement, our wedding, our honeymoon, and every chapter that followed.
No matter where we had been, coming home to Rylee was pure joy. His excitement was unmatched, and somehow we always understood each other without words. We had our own language. He always put his paw on our hands, just to hold onto us. We loved dancing around the kitchen with him, double-patting our laps so he’d jump up on us, or watching him magically appear the second he smelled us cooking, hoping we’d save him a bite.
He was with us through some of the highest highs of our lives and some of the lowest lows. And now we are facing the first chapter he won’t be here for.
The hole in our hearts is impossible to describe. Loving Rylee has been one of the greatest blessings of our lives, and we will be forever grateful for every walk, every cuddle, every adventure, and every moment we shared. He will always be our “Buddy” (in a high pitch voice), and a piece of our hearts will always belong to him.
Rylee fought a long and courageous battle with cancer before ultimately passing from its complications. Through every season, he brought nothing but unconditional love, joy, and happiness into our lives. While our hearts are broken and we miss him more than words can express, we find comfort in the hope that, by God’s grace, we will be reunited with him one day.
We love you forever. You will always be our sunshine. We will see you again someday. 🩵
We are endlessly grateful to our families for surrounding Rylee with so much love, comfort, and support throughout his life, especially during his final days. We are especially grateful to Ross and Lydia for the incredible love and selfless care they gave Rylee. We could not have asked for a more loved boy.
